Commemorative Events
Re-enactment is a powerful medium for communicating the past in the present. Historica acknowledges that history is complicated and intertwined sets of stories shared by all of us. We believe in the power and drama of performance to create and foster historical understanding.
The commemoration of historical events can be undertaken with seriousness and can convey significant meaning to audiences. For example, at the Battle of Vinegar Hill re-enactment, many people in the audience were literally in tears from the emotional and poignant portrayal of events. So too at Vinegar Hill – an historical conflict with deep resonance in the present – people from ‘both sides of the fence’ walked away from the re-enactment with a powerful experience and historical insight.
Historica can add significant interest in, and educational interpretation of, commemorative events. Rather than relying purely on the traditional format of ‘talking heads’ making speeches, Historica can provide historical interpreters that create an atmosphere of ‘pastness’ that conveys remembrance in a serious but entertaining way – in a language accessible to all.
